  1. Consultation and scan. Examination, X-rays or a 3D scan to check bone, gums and bite.
  2. Implant placement. Under local anaesthetic a small titanium post is placed in the jaw bone.
  3. Healing. The bone bonds to the implant, typically over 3–6 months.
  4. Abutment and impressions. A connector is fitted and your new tooth is designed.
  5. Your crown. A ceramic crown matched to your own teeth is fitted.

Dental implants

Inside a real implant procedure

A dental implant is a small titanium post that becomes part of the jaw bone and later supports a ceramic crown. These are one real patient's surgery photos and X-ray, unedited.

Questions

Frequently asked

How much does treatment cost?

It depends on the treatment and how many teeth are involved. After your examination you receive a written plan with the full cost before anything starts, so you can decide in your own time.

Composite bonding or porcelain veneers?

Bonding is quicker, needs little or no drilling and is easy to repair. Porcelain is more stain-resistant and usually lasts longer, but needs some tooth preparation. Read the full comparison.

Will it look natural?

That is the point of the planning. Shape, length and shade are chosen to suit your face and your other teeth, and you agree the plan before treatment.

How many appointments will I need?

Bonding is often done in one visit after the consultation. Veneers usually take two to three appointments. Implants take several months to allow healing.
